Samantha Bee Nails It

If you’re unfamiliar with the history of the Religious Right, television host Samantha Bee provided a great primer on the subject in her opening segment last night. Though presented in the comic style commonly seen in late-night “not-really-news” news shows, the segment accurately surveys the topic. It covers how evangelicals were apolitical for many decades, until controversy over segregationist policies at Bob Jones University in the 1970s resulted in mobilization. Thus, although the Religious Right today is most vocal about abortion and gay rights, its real roots are in racism. Lots of other great stuff too — she does a nice job cramming loads of accurate and interesting information into a short segment. See it here:
