A bizarre story out of South Carolina, with our American Humanist Association legal team to the rescue. A woman who had recently lost her father in a motor vehicle accident informed us that the South Carolina Department of Public Safety was sending (at taxpayer expense) Christian literature to the grieving families of accident victims. We jumped right on this one, sending a complaint letter to the state, reminding them of this thing called the wall of separation between church and state. It worked, the state backed down immediately and promised to stop the practice. Coverage from numerous Carolina-area news outlets, including WRAL here.
